Somewhere Slower

Instagram is excellent for showing the mess in motion.

A new pen arrives. An ink gets tested. A notebook gets used. Something leaks, smears, surprises me, or turns out to be better than expected. That all works nicely in a reel or a post.

It is also where the community is.

That part matters. The comments, messages, recommendations, questions, shared obsessions, and tiny stationery rabbit holes are a big part of why Desktop Nerd works at all. Instagram is where most of the conversation happens, and I do not want that to change.

The problem is that Instagram is not great at keeping useful things useful.

Good thoughts disappear. Helpful links get buried. Downloads need a better place than “somewhere I mentioned once.” Discount codes should not require a treasure hunt. Longer notes deserve more room than a caption box that starts to feel like yelling into a lift shaft.

So Desktop Nerd now has a proper website.

Nothing too dramatic. Just a better place for the slower stuff.

And as much as I will use it to keep things organised, the site is not really there for me to keep opening, checking, and rearranging every five minutes.

It is there to make Desktop Nerd more useful for the people who follow along.

The Journal is there for longer thoughts, product notes, ink opinions, notebook arguments, and anything that needs more space than the feed gives it.

The Downloads section is there for free tools and files, starting with Brain Dump and Ink Swatch Sheets Vol. 01. Some of it solves a small stationery problem. Some of it just keeps the design part of my brain happy.

The Codes page keeps the useful discounts in one spot, instead of cramming them into the Instagram bio like a tiny stationery coupon drawer.

And the Contact page gives brands, makers, and stationery people a clearer way to get in touch.

The intention is simple: make the site useful for the people who find it, not just another place for things to disappear.

Instagram is still where Desktop Nerd moves, talks, and bumps into people who understand why paper choice can ruin your afternoon.

The website is where the useful stuff can sit still.
